A Handmade Palace of Pebbles
When French postman Ferdinand Cheval
walked his route, he would collect pebbles and put them in his
wheelbarrow, taking them home with him. It all began when Ferdinand
tripped over a strangely-shaped rock, which he then decided to pick up
and take home with him. In 1879, Ferdinand’s hobby became a real project
– once he was done with his work, he would work on constructing his
pebble palace through the night. 33 years later, Ferdinand finally
completed his palace, now known as Le Palais ideal.
