7 Naughty Evolutionary Theories

Why do women have orgasms?

Why do women have orgasms?
Sure, orgasms feel great for both men and women, but when you think about things from an evolutionary standpoint, it's easy to see why men need to have orgasms, but not women. After all, having vaginal muscles tighten up and making the woman feel good don't play any role in impregnation. In fact, many women have had multiple children without ever experiencing an orgasm in their lives.

One theory states that women have orgasms only because men have orgasms and, like male nipples, they are something that both sexes develop even if only one gender needs them. Other researchers argue that because orgasms feel good, having orgasms makes women more interested in sex, thus making them want to have sex more often, which would make them more likely to get pregnant. Yet another theory states that when women orgasm anytime between a minute before or forty-five minutes after the man ejaculates, their bodies retain more sperm, increasing the likelihood of conception.

Why do women often take so much longer to orgasm than men? Also, why can they orgasm more than once per encounter?

Why do women often take so much longer to orgasm than men? Also, why can they orgasm more than once per encounter?
A lot of evidence points to the idea that our ancestors loved orgies. This was beneficial biologically since having more sperm in the reproductive tract of a woman's body will increase her chance of getting pregnant. So, if women can orgasm over and over again, often requiring lengthy sexual encounters to orgasm, they would be more likely to take on more than one partner in a sex session, thereby increasing their chances of getting pregnant.

Macaques and chimpanzees, some of our closest biological relatives, also participate in group sex until the female achieves orgasm.

Why do women make more noise than men during sex?

Why do women make more noise than men during sex?
This same group sex concept also explains why women tend to make more noise during sex. It served as a notification to any other men in the area that the woman was going at it and that they might want to jump in there when the first gentleman was done.

There was another benefit to women copulating with as many men as possible when trying to conceive. If no one knows who fathered a specific child, then the entire group will be more active in raising the child and men won't feel like they can harm the children of their competitors. Horses take a similar approach when a mare suspects she may be pregnant, since she mates with all males in the area so no stallion will harm the foal once it is born, because it could just as well be his

Why are men's testicles so big compared to their other reproductive parts?

Why are men's testicles so big compared to their other reproductive parts?
Again, it goes back to our orgy-loving ancestors. In monogamous animal species, like the gibbon or gorilla, testicles are rather small in relation to body size, but that's not the case in humans. In non-monogamous animals, the testicles have to be larger so the men can produce more sperm in order to better compete with other potential fathers when it comes to whose sperm reaches the woman's egg first.

Why do women have breasts?

Why do women have breasts?
Yes, women need breasts to feed their infant children, but why do humans have such large, bulbous breasts compared to the relatively flat teats that most animals have? Also, why do human breasts maintain this shape even when the woman isn't nursing?

There are a few theories about this one. One suggestion regarding the shape of the breasts says that while most animals have a nose in line with their mouth, humans have a nose that protrudes much further. Therefore, our babies would have a hard time breathing if they were pressed up against a mostly flat surface like the chest of a nursing gorilla. Another theory says that breasts are all about male pleasure and reproduction. That's why they began to develop as women began walking upright. Whereas most primates have a great view of the female's reproductive organs, particularly the fatty deposits on their butts, humans look more at the top half of each another's bodies. As a result, evolution gave women fatty deposits on their chests that resemble the buttocks, exciting males so they would still want to get it on. This idea is backed up by the fact that women only start to develop breast tissue as they hit puberty, and as their fertility decreases their breasts begin to sag. So, breasts might also serve as a handy fertility signal.

Why Are Men So Obsessed With Breasts?

Why Are Men So Obsessed With Breasts?
Breasts are technically sexual organs since they are tied in with the reproductive cycle, but they have no correlation to a woman's ability to get pregnant during a sexual encounter. Also, a woman is always able to feed her baby regardless of the size of her breasts. So, why are men so obsessed with breasts, particularly large ones?

Again, they could just be a way to attract men to fertile women, as stated above, but Larry Young, a professor of psychiatry at Emory University, has a different theory. He suggests that humans are programmed to love breasts since they rely on them so much for food. As straight women start to become more interested in men and lose their fascination with the female form, straight men continue to be fascinated by the very things that once gave them sustenance.

Additionally, when a woman's nipples are played with, oxytocin is released into her brain, regardless of whether it's a baby feeding or a man trying to turn her on. The end result is that the man can excite a woman and get her focused exclusively on him the same way she would be focused on her infant if she were breast feeding, making her more interested in copulation and possible reproduction.

Why do humans kiss?

Why do humans kiss?
90% of cultures participate in mouth to mouth kissing , including bonobos. Aside from the fact that it feels nice and helps you feel closer to your partner, there is another benefit, and this one explains why the behavior caught on from an evolutionary standpoint. Mouth to mouth kissing builds up our immune systems by exposing each participant to the diseases of the other.

Scientists believe that this is particularly important when it comes to the Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV), an infection that can pose serious risks to the woman's offspring if it is acquired during particular time periods. This virus is easily exchanged via mouth to mouth kissing. Therefore, because females are mostly able to control when they kiss, if they become infected with a strain of HCMV at the certain time, they are able to protect their offspring from the threat of infection when the baby is in its most vulnerable stages of development.

8 Most Extreme Tourist Attractions

The Cage of Death (Australia)

The Cage of Death (Australia)
Without the cage you wouldn't stand a chance swimming with a massive saltwater crocodile. But for brave punters who still want to get cozy with a feisty croc, a new Australian tourist attraction is offering the chance for a close encounter in the safety of a clear acrylic box dubbed the 'cage of death.'

Just 4cm of acrylic, a pair of goggles and a swimsuit, separate thrill seekers from the jaws of Choppa, a saltwater crocodile. The cage has no bars, unlike cages used in shark dives, which prevent the reptiles from gripping on, but deep tooth scratches are visible on the sides, deterring some hesitant participants. Top End tourists climb into the clear box before being lowered into Choppa's lair. They then spend 15 minutes inside the 9ft high cage and watch Choppa, who lost both front feet while fighting other crocodiles, try to take a bite out of them.

The attraction at Crocosaurus Cove, in the heart of the city of Darwin in the Northern Territory, has been given high marks by adrenaline junkies.

Cliff Base Jumping (Norway)

Cliff Base Jumping (Norway)
Norway has absolutely beautiful landscapes, including crazy cliffs that call to people to climb them and then BASE jump off the top. Here's a look at some of those incredible cliffs, as well as some insanely dangerous switchback roads to get to them in Norway. Thrill seekers, photographers, hikers and climbers take in these majestic views of nature. And then, there's BASE jumpers who have a much more extreme need for adrenaline. Charles Lindbergh once said of his adrenaline rush, “It is the greatest shot of adrenaline to be doing what you have wanted to do so badly. You almost feel like you could fly without the plane.” Here in Norway, as if they've turned into Superman, some adrenaline junkies do fly without a plane.

Iguazu Boat Ride (Argentina & Brazil)

Iguazu Boat Ride (Argentina & Brazil)
Taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide, the Iguazu cataracts are one of the most impressive sites that you will ever see in your travels around the world. 275 waterfalls cascade through the Argentine and Brazilian parks and once you see the Devil's Throat you won't regret the trip.

For 15 USD you can take an Iguazu boat ride that will allow you to thumb your nose at the visitors in both countries, as you motor right into the fury of the monstruous falls. Not only will you get absolutely soaked and feel, up close, the power of the falls, but you also get bragging rights, because no matter how you phrase it, the fact that you took a small boat and motored into the dump zone to receive a sheet of water from some of the biggest falls in the world, is undeniably sweet.

Note: In 2011, two US tourists were killed and five people were injured when one of the boats overturned. Seven tourists from the US, Germany and Colombia were sightseeing at Iguazu Falls in northern Argentina with a crew of three when their boat hit rocks and flipped over.

CN Tower Edge Walking (Toronto, Canada)

CN Tower Edge Walking (Toronto, Canada)
The CN Tower holds a Guinness World Record for its EdgeWalk attraction — the highest external walk on a building. The attraction allows people to walk hands free along a 1.5-metre-wide ledge that surrounds the top of the tower's main pod.

Walkers who venture out in groups of six are secured with a harness during their 150-metre stroll. The walk opened to the public on Aug. 1 2011 and officials say it has attracted thrill seekers from age 13 to 90.

Volcano Bungee (Chile)

Volcano Bungee (Chile)
If throwing yourself off a platform with nothing but a bouncy cord tied to your feet is a bit too lame for you, then you're a candidate for the wildest bungee jump we've ever heard of: the Volcano Bungee near Pucón, Chile. Basically you get flown up to an active volcano--yes, we mean a bubbly, smokin' volcano--and then you have to bungee jump off the helicopter into the caldera towards the molten lava. Are these people insane?

Anyone thinking that throwing themselves into a volcano sounds fun also needs to be fairly well off. You can do this bungee jump as part of a six-day package for $9,995, including accommodations and other (slightly less crazy) activities.

El Caminito Del Rey Trekking (Spain)

El Caminito Del Rey Trekking (Spain)
Adrenaline junkies have been flocking to southern Spain to experience the 110-year-old El Caminito Del Rey. And you don't need to be an experienced climber either; the only requirements are that walkers should be at least twelve years old and have a good head for heights. The trail, also known as the King's Pathway, was originally built in 1905 for workers to travel between two hydroelectric power plants but was closed-off in 2000 after two walkers fell to their deaths.

Kayaking with Whales (Alaska)

Kayaking with Whales (Alaska)
While combining canoeing with bird watching or fishing is certainly a reason some people paddle, it is becoming increasingly popular to kayak and paddleboard in search of bigger more elusive life. The rise of the internet, which has publicized these encounters between kayakers and paddleboarders with sharks and whales, is adding to the allure of this endeavor.

While Alaskan sea kayakers have long owned the rights to cool photos of themselves in kayaks with breathtaking panoramas in the background and whale tales in the foreground, this phenomenon is increasing with greater frequency in other parts of the U.S. and the world. What is cooler after all than kayaking with a whale? It is almost becoming predictable as to when kayakers will be able to share in this experience, as whale experts are increasingly able to predict the feeding patterns of these truly beautiful marine mammals. While it is quite uncommon for whales to do any damage to humans, it is not out of the question. Their sheer size and weight make an encounter with these gentle giants a dangerous proposition.

Zorbing (New Zeland)

Zorbing (New Zeland)
This is an extreme sport which allows adrenaline junkies to roll down a hill in a giant inflatable ball. Adventure company Have You Got The Ball Ltd from Bryn Coch Farm, Whitford, near Holywell, offers an experience called sphereing, also known as zorbing.

Zorbing is generally performed on a gentle slope, but can also be done on a level surface, permitting more rider control. In the absence of hills some operators have constructed inflatable, wooden or metal ramps.

NOTE: Zorbing was first established in Rotorua New Zealand and has since branched off into different countries like Wales.

10 Weirdest Medical Syndromes

Sexsomnia Disorder

Sexsomnia Disorder
Sexsomnia is a disorder in which people participate in sexual acts (either solo or with a partner) while sound asleep. It is classed as one of many parasomnias, which also include things like sleep-walking and talking. Though this is a relatively new syndrome (officially identified in 2003) it has already been accepted as a defense against some alleged rape cases.

Fish Odor Syndrome (Trimethylaminuria)

Fish Odor Syndrome (Trimethylaminuria)
Trimethylaminuria is a rare metabolic disorder that causes a defect in the normal production of a specific enzyme. Long story short, when the body can't break down trimethylamine during food digestion, the compound builds up and is released in the person's sweat, urine, and breath, giving off a strong fishy body odor.

The odor varies from person to person; in one, it will just smell like terrible body odor, but in most people it gives off a noticeable pungent fish odor.

Exploding Head Syndrome

Exploding Head Syndrome
Exploding Head Syndrome is a parasomnia disorder that causes sufferers to hear loud, explosion-like noises that seem to originate from within their own head. The "explosions" usually occur right after the victim has fallen asleep and sound like a roar, gunshot, loud voices or screams, a ringing noise, or the sound of electrical buzzing.

While victims of this syndrome aren't physically injured, they tend to experience fear and anxiety after such attacks. There is no known cause or cure for this condition, though it has been linked to stress and fatigue and often vanishes without treatment.

Foreign Accent Syndrome

Foreign Accent Syndrome
Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) is a speech disorder that is often a side effect of severe brain injury, such as stroke or head trauma. FAS causes sudden changes in speech patterns, intonation and pronunciation so that the victim suddenly starts speaking with a "foreign" accent. FAS typically develops within one or two years after the injury and is often incurable.

Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Syndrome

Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Syndrome
Non-24 is a chronic circadian rhythm sleep disorder defined as "a chronic steady pattern comprising one-to-two-hour daily delays in sleep onset and wake times in an individual living in society." The pattern of delay persists "around the clock," taking several weeks to complete one cycle. This disruption of the body clock causes cyclical bouts of nighttime sleeplessness and excessive daytime fatigue and napping.

It is a neurological sleep disorder that has been traced to genetic abnormalities that affect specific factors in the brain. While anyone can be diagnosed with Non-24, the disorder affects proportionately more totally blind individuals than sighted.

Genital Retraction Syndrome

Genital Retraction Syndrome
People who suffer from Genital Retraction Syndrome (GRS) are overcome by the fear that their external genitals (and the breasts, for women) are shrinking and/or retracting into the body to the point of complete disappearance. GRS is a mental condition prevalent in cultures that are often without sufficient medical resources and who attribute the condition to voodoo, witchcraft, or superstition. In Asia and Africa there have been widespread instances of this syndrome called "Penis Panics."

Gourmand Syndrome

Gourmand Syndrome
Gourmand syndrome is a rare condition that sometimes occurs in people who sustain injuries to the right frontal lobe. These people develop a new, post-injury passion for gourmet food. Lesions or injuries to this specific portion of the brain cause an intense preoccupation with food and a preference for fine eating.

The condition is considered "benign" or not harmful, but it sounds pretty painful for the wallet.

Walking Corpse Syndrome (Cotard's Syndrome)

Walking Corpse Syndrome (Cotard's Syndrome)
People who suffer from Cotard's Syndrome have the delusional belief that they are dead, do not exist, are putrefying, or have lost their blood or internal organs. There may also be sensory hallucinations, for instance, they might think that they smell of rotting flesh. The disorder tends to occur intermittently rather than being chronic and may be a feature of mood disorder, schizophrenia or organic disorders.

Busy Life Syndrome

Busy Life Syndrome
Since the main symptoms of this lifestyle syndrome are forgetfulness and lack of concentration, we're pretty sure we all have it. According to researchers: “Forgetfulness is an ordinary part of getting older but anecdotal evidence suggests that it is now affecting people earlier in life as a result of busy work and home lives, and so-called 'information overload' from the various media channels we consume today,” lead researcher Dr. Alan Wade said.

The recommended treatment is a drug called memantine, which is also used to treat Alzheimer's Disease.

Moebius Syndrome

Moebius Syndrome
Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that is present at birth. People with the condition are unable to move their faces (they can't smile, frown, suck, grimace or blink their eyes) and are unable to move their eyes from side to side. There may be skeletal problems as well, causing hand/feet anomalies such as club feet. Respiratory problems, speech and swallowing disorders, visual impairments, sensory processing disorder, sleep disorders, and weak upper body strength may also be present. Approximately 30% of children with Moebius syndrome are on the autism spectrum.

10 Craziest Fountains Around the World

The Fountain of Neptune is a monumental civic fountain located in the eponymous square Piazza Nettuno, next to Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna, Italy. The fountain has a statue of Neptune on top, but just below him are four women, one on each corner of the fountain, leaning back, emphatically squeezing their bare breasts and launching an unholy squirt of liquid out of their nipples into the fountain.

Swarovski, a manufacturer of glass crystal, has a museum and garden in Wattens, Austria. This enormous fountain stands in front of it.

Jeanneke Pis is a modern fountain and statue in Brussels, which forms a counterpoint in gender terms to the city's trademark Manneken Pis at the Grand Place. It was made by Denis-Adrien Debouvrie in 1985, erected in 1987 and endowed with its own instant legend, the better to amuse strollers. This half-metre-high statue of blue-grey limestone depicts a little girl with her hair in short pigtails squatting and urinating, apparently very contentedly. It is unsurprisingly much less well known than its male counterpart, being a new addition instead of a centuries-old symbol of the city. The sculpture is now protected from vandalism by iron bars.

The newest Weber sculptures to grace London's South Bank are engaging, to say the least. The artist, Klaus Weber, a self-proclaimed "Fountain Artist," pokes fun at the less attractive side of the human race in an eco-friendly way. These fountains, entitled "The Big Giving" are a series of sculptures that appear to have come to life from mounds of rocks. Klaus Weber's statues have water pouring out from every imaginable orifice including mouths, ears, eyes and even armpits. It's also a neat fact that these intriguing sculptures are also eco-friendly as all the water that spews from them is recycled.

Crown Fountain is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture featured in Chicago's Millennium Park, which is located in the Loopcommunity area. Designed by Catalan artist Jaume Plensa and executed by Krueck and Sexton Architects, it opened in July 2004.

An employee of PianoWorks, a piano dealer in Atlanta, found a creative new use for a wrecked piano. It's now a planter and a fountain that pumps 2,000 gallons an hour.

The Canberra Times Fountain by Robert Woodward is located at the Intersection of Ainslie Avenue and City Walk in Canberra, Australia. The fountain was commissioned by Federal Capital Press as a gift to the people of Canberra on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of The Canberra Times newspaper. Installed in 1979 and standing nearly 5 metres tall, the fountain is made of tube and rod fabricated stainless steel.

Banpo Bridge in Seoul, South Korea utilizes 9,380 nozzles to spray out colorful, wing-like fountain sprays on either side of the bridge. We've all heard the story of Moses parting the Red Sea — this is probably what it would feel like to drive through it.

This mesmerizing water fountain was designed by British sculptor William Pye and sits in front of Seaham Hall in Sunderland. The clear cylinder holds filtered water that rushes around to create a beautiful air-core vortex. Thanks to the stairs on either side of the cylinder, viewers are able to climb up and look down into the eye of the vortex.

It may look Photoshopped, but this Magic Tap fountain actually has a pipe hidden in the stream of water. Located in Aqualand, Spain.
