Wagner: A Most Extraordinary Composer
Wagner: A Most Extraordinary Composer
Richard
Wagner (1813 - 1883) was one of the most controversial and enigmatic
composers of his or any era. He achieved his greatest fame writing
operas with traditional (neither classical, Christian, not historical)
stories that fanned the romantic and nationalist flames of his adoring
German audiences. Wagner uniquely controlled all aspects of his operas,
from the music and staging, to the theater and the words. His big idea
was to create a 'total work of art', that synthesized poetry, drama,
music and visuals. But first and foremost he was a wonderful musical
composer. Enjoy this taster collection containing 24 musical pieces from
Wagner's sublime oeuvre.
