You
may have heard of a popular form of exercise known as resistance
training, which has gained popularity over the last decade or so due to
the many benefits it offers. This form of exercise causes the muscles to
contract against external resistance, increasing strength, tone, mass
and/or endurance. Equipment (external resistance) like dumbbells, rubber
exercise tubing, your own body weight, bricks, bottles of water, or any
other object that causes the muscles to contract are used.
